The week begone saw the biggest volatility of the year and the biggest fall for the indices in percentage and real terms, with a steep correction in stocks.
Technically the indices have collapsed after several months after consolidating near 5250 levels on nifty front where it was facing huge resistance and was in a reactory zone of 5300 levels and decided to create and retest the base before it goes up.
Historically January is also a period which gives negative returns and witnesses a build up before budget which usually follows in the next expiry , so this time looks the same.
We now enter into f/o expiry week with a truncated trading week , which is likely to be volatile and a probable two side movements.
The indices has managed to take supports at 4946 levels and bounced to close above 5000 levels , now these levels are assumed to be of very crucial importance and the markets are likely to be up as long as 5000 is held.
So the markets have the potential to bounce and be up ahead and till expiry and should be considered up as long as 5000 on nifty front is held.
The volatility and downside is also an opportunity to take positions in stocks which are likely to be benifited from the budget .
From a trading point of view , I would watch the lows of 4946 at any downslide and buy near to it with a stoploss below it and remain long above 5000 , as long as its held and play the volatility.
The supports for the nifty is at 4990 levels and resistance at 5250 levels.
The supports for the sensex is at 16900 levels and resistance at 17600 levels.
